Please support Every Mother Counts as we work to build a clinic for mothers in need in Indonesia this holiday season! Thanks to Mozilla Firefox and CrowdRise, we're entering a competition and If our charity raises the most, Mozilla Firefox will contribute $25,000!
While for many women pregnancy is an exciting and joyful experience, for others it can be a death sentence. Every day, 1000 women lose their lives due to complications caused by pregnancy or childbirth. But almost ALL of these deaths are preventable.
Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction globally. EMC seeks to engage new audiences to better understand the challenges and the solutions while encouraging them to take action to improve the lives of girls and women worldwide.The keystone of the campaign is www.everymothercounts.org, an interactive platform providing the tools to raise awareness, education and action.
One of the ways Every Mother Counts is trying to alter this fact is by highlighting the people and programs that are successfully reducing these figures and making childbirth safe for Every Mother.
I recently traveled to Indonesia to meet one of these extraordinary individuals. Robin Lim, a midwife who is changing the world one mother, one birth at a time. She is the reason why we entered this Challenge because we believe that she has and will continue to impact the lives of countless thousands by providing loving care to Every Mother and her family. Services at the clinic are free of charge for those who cannot afford them and her current clinic has run on donations alone for years.
If you join our Every Mother Counts Team we can make Robin's dream come true, to build a bigger and more stable new clinic. If our team raises the most, we can win $25,000 from Mozilla Firefox, which will go toward building that dream.
· 358,000 women die during pregnancy and childbirth around the world each year. 99% of these deaths occur in the developing world.
· Indonesia is one of the top 11 countries that contribute to 65% of maternal deaths in the world.
· In Indonesia, the average family earns the equivalent of $8 a day, according to the IMF. But a baby delivery costs about $70 at a hospital, and a Caesarian section can cost as much as $700.
