HERE'S THE STORY:

In Southern California animal shelters, approximately 800 dogs and cats are euthanized EVERY DAY.

Emerson -- the little guy in the photos -- was rescued from death row at a Los Angeles-area shelter. He had been confiscated as *evidence* in a case of extreme animal neglect and discarded once the case was closed. (Look at the second photo on his profile. That's what he looked like when he was rescued!)

Volunteers from MOLLY'S MUTTS AND MEOWS pulled Emerson from the shelter, took him immediately to the vet, paid for all sorts of medical care, dental work and grooming and nursed him back to health in a loving, foster home.

I met Emerson at an adoption event and it was love at first underbite! He came to live with me and his 18-year-old cat sister, Peggy (also a rescue). We shared many great adventures together. Sadly, Emerson earned his angel wings last August. I miss him every single day.

Emerson's favorite activity was RUNNING. I am going to honor his memory by running the NEW YORK CITY Marathon on November 7th and raising much-needed funds for MOLLY'S MUTTS AND MEOWS.

MOLLY'S MUTTS AND MEOWS is a non-profit, ALL-VOLUNTEER rescue organization whose goal is to help dogs and cats from Los Angeles-area shelters find loving, forever homes. These folks work miracles day in, day out.
