Happy August! A vote for you :)

Every year, thousands of kids start school with no books in the classroom, poor school libraries, and no books of their own. Reader to Reader gives out hundreds of thousands of books to under-resourced schools, libraries and children, but the need is especially strong at the start of the school year. They need YOUR help to get books into the hands of children who truly need the power of reading in their lives.

Please consider giving what you can to this important cause. If you can't give now, join the team and spread the word!
Thank you,

Kat

June vote for you!

The summer is here, and school is out! But even though students are enjoying the sun, we're still working hard to bring resources to low-income schools, libraries, and communities. Reader to Reader's work doesn't stop with the school year, and becomes even more important. More than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth comes from unequal access to summer learning opportunities. Low-income kids can lose up to two months of reading ability over the summer, while middle-class children make slight gains. Now more than ever it is essential that books are available to low-income children. Help us make this possible with your support today.

Thank you,
Kat

A spring vote for you!

With all the headlines screaming disaster and heartache, it's easy to get disheartened. Reader to Reader has supported schools damaged by tornadoes, public libraries devastated by flooding, and communities deeply affected by local tragedy. But each day we see examples of how much good is out there. That goodness is not always in the headlines. Sometimes, it's tucked quietly away, but it's there, and is the very reason we do this work--to bring books and other resources to the next generation that so richly deserves them.

Reader to Reader needs your help to get books in the hands of children across the country. Will you donate or join our team? Your support makes a difference!

Thanks,
Kat

Happy January vote! Wishing you and your projects the very best this year.
On Thanksgiving Day 2012, someone broke in to Hopi Mission School in Kykotsmovi Village, AZ and stole all their laptops. Without them, students have little access to technology, research, Internet and essential learning tools. No one deserves to lose learning opportunities and resources because of someone else's hurtful actions.
Reader to Reader is raising funds to not only replace these computers, but to keep them safe in a locking cart and prevent any future theft. If you can, please help me support the children of Hopi Mission School today. If you donate $17 or more, Crowdrise will automatically enter you for a raffle to get a $100 donation to your cause (and a $100 Roozt gift card!)

Based on where you stay flea attacks can be periodic. If you stay where winter seasons are cold, then they get into houses and creatures during the hotter months. If you stay where it is light environment all season, then the flea invasions happen throughout 12 months. Regardless of the season, flea attacks bring pain to all houses they get into.

Stuff About Me:
I started the Silverlake Conservatory of Music along with a couple of my friends about 10 years ago (2001). Music has been my life for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school, I was in the orchestra, marching band and musical production band. Anything to keep myself involved.

A few years back, I had the opportunity to visit my old high school and noticed how many of the music programs were cut from when I was there. There were barely any instruments left and the music room was essentially bare.

I quickly realized that there was something I could do to help out and that's when I started the Silverlake Conservatory of Music (www.silverlakeconservatory.org). The mission of the organization is to facilitate basic music education for the youth of the community but all are welcome and encouraged to participate.

We've been working to help gain music scholarships for low income children (ages 7-17) in the area. Currently we have about 250 low-income children on scholarship and a total of 700 students at the school. I've created a project on Crowdrise below to help fund this important cause. Please check it out and support us in any way you can.
