I am volunteering for the Medicus Foundations 2nd Annual Gateway 2 Giving Golf Outing. Although there are 5 separate charities that we are supporting, the one closest to my heart is University Hospital's Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Research Fund. The reason for this is because of all the love and care my family received while my sister, Michele, was battling Ewing’s Sarcoma at the age of 12 at Rainbows. The Doctors, Nurses, and Social Workers were so kid-friendly, had the greatest bed side manor, and really love their job, the take the time to answer any question/concerns you may have and also will take the time to explain what your loved one is going through, what they will go through and explain it until you understand. Rainbows is a place where you have your own specialized team to fight along side you, who take the time to get to know you personally, who you can count on, who becomes your family.

But do you want to know the reason I think that you should support our event? It is very simple....the Children. Being around Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, on the oncology floor, for 3 years, you get the opportunity to experience something that you can only experience first hand at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital….BRAVERY. These children, ranging from newborns, to toddlers, to school age children, to high school young adults, are the faces of BRAVERY...the faces of HOPE…the faces of a FIGHTER...and the faces of LOVE. Their smiles light up the hallway, their crafts line the walls; their laughter fills the hearts of everyone who surrounds them. They are fighting for their lives, while their families are praying for a cure; they deserve a chance to live, a chance to fight a battle that there is a CHANCE of winning. They deserve people to touch their lives the way that they touch others.

So won't you please donate to our event......Do your part to help these children have a chance at life, so that families like my own, do not have to say goodbye to someone we love so much at such a young age. My sister fought with everything she had; now I am continuing her fight to help find a cure for childhood cancers. Will you join me?
