I'm going to run/walk/jog/skip/limp a 5K to raise money for a worthy cause: The Long Beach Cinematheque's Long Beach Film Festival, which is planned for May 2013! This should be a fantastic event for the community, particularly the arts community and the myriad of small businesses and local nonprofits who will be involved in the film festival.
So give up the cash not just for a good cause, but also think of it as a bet! You're betting on my ability to do my first 5K!! See my new Vibrams?! I got blue ones, too!!! And, I've been thinking about it....if enough people believe that between now and October I can get in shape enough to run a half-marathon, then I'll try that!!! Let's say, to the tune of $2000....if it looks like I can raise $2000 between now and October, I'll plan on doing the half-marathon....I'll risk injury and oh, the fear of the shame of not being able to finish and getting on the "left behind" truck...but I'll try it!!!
Hey!! Let's set a goal! As soon as I reach the halfway mark, $1000, I'll change my registration from the 5K to the half-marathon, and I'll know I have to kick up the training!
AND!!!! I will personally match your donations up to $2000....so, if I reach my goal, the Long Beach Film Festival gets $4000, I'll be in much better shape (or dead), and you can feel all smug for being so awesome!
