Non-profit organization based in the United Staes that channels funds to non-profit organizations in Colombia.
WHY COLOMBIA:
Give to Colombia is the response of a group of Florida-based professionals that want to increase the flow of human and financial resources into Colombia’s social sector, as a means of improved the social and economic opportunities of the countries most vulnerable populations. After conducting an analysis of philanthropic trends between the United States and Colombia, it was concluded that:
- Current levels of foreign aid to Colombia are not sufficient nor sustainable.
- Donors were skeptical about the deployment of their funds and the lack of accountability.
- Donors were never solicited to support Colombia (while other countries in Latin America were active in their fundraising efforts).
- Donors did not have a transparent mean to channel resources to Colombia, while benefiting from a tax deduction certificate.
As a response to these findings, Give to Colombia was created to not only address the challenges experienced by international donors when supporting social initiatives in Colombia, but to also encourage the Colombia Diaspora at large to participate in the country’s social and economic development. To do such, it was deemed advantageous to create the organization as a professional, US based nonprofit that could bridge the knowledge gap between US social investors interested in making donations to high social impact projects and expert organizations in Colombia undertaking those types of projects.
Give to Colombia was incorporated in the state of Florida in September of 2003 and received its 501 (c)(3) charitable status from the IRS in June of 2004. Since then, we have begun our work with a number of US organizations, providing them with tailor made solutions to match their giving needs and initiatives, and transforming the experience of making philanthropic investments in Colombia.
Our Projects
Give to Colombia concentrates its efforts within three strategic pillars, which are key to promoting peace, strengthening democracy and encouraging sustainable development and prosperity in Colombia: EDUCATION; HEALTH AND NUTRITION: and SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
