You’ve probably heard of the crisis in Horn of Africa unless you live under a rock (if you do, that’s cool, thanks for making the effort to check out my Crowdrise page). Right now there’s all sorts of trouble in countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, etc…the worst drought in decades, famine, and ongoing fighting—and all of this has forced tons of people out of their homes and into refugee camps.
These families need food, water, and shelter, yes. But what you might not know is that malaria is one of the biggest causes of death for refugees and these families need nets too. And not badminton nets or hair nets…bed nets-the kind that keep families safe from malaria-carrying mosquitoes and have saved millions of lives.
Refugee camps are crowded. Mosquitoes that spread malaria are breeding like crazy and having fun in the swampy lands…but no one else is. That’s why malaria is such a big deal in these camps in the Horn of Africa. Malaria is taking lives every day, but we can prevent the disease with a net that costs less than a movie ticket.
Seriously.That's beyond crazy.
Nothing But Nets is working with the UN and thousands of people around the world to help send at least 150,000 life-saving nets to refugees in the Horn of Africa.
This Mozilla Firefox Challenge will help send 2,500 nets on top of the nets we send.Here's how the whole Mozilla thing works... Mozilla is offering $25,000 to the charity that raises the most money during this contest.
