GO! St. Louis Team for Kids is the official charity team for GO! St. Louis. This exciting new team will help you train for a race at the 2012 GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend®, while raising funds to help us in our mission to fight the raising rate of youth obesity.
We created this new team out of an increased interest in expanding our local youth fitness initiatives at a time of crisis for many young children, who continue to fight a lack of physical exercise and ultimately an obesity problem than can lead to a lifetime of health issues. We have expanded our youth programs over the years to reach at-risk children – more than 20,000 in 2011, but we need to do more, and we need your help.
By joining the team, not only will you raise awareness and funds for GO! St. Louis Team for Kids, you will receive a variety of exclusive event incentives:
In return, team members will raise a minimum of $500.
Your Investment in GO! St. Louis Team for Kids, either by joining the team or making a one-time individual tax deductible donation by clicking the green Donate button on the right, will support our current youth programs: GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® (RRRM) and Students on the GO! (SOTG).
The GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon program encourages children in grades K- 8 to be reading proficient, physically fit and community minded by challenging them to READ 26 books, RIGHT the community with 26 good deeds, and RUN 26.2 miles over a six month period. It is a standards-based, sustainable, enrichment program that endorses and supports existing school curriculum. In 2012, more than 22,000 students from 250 schools are participating.
Students on the GO!, a program for high school students, targets at risk kids in St. Louis and provides them with an opportunity to focus on accomplishing a challenging goal of running the April GO! St. Louis Half Marathon. The program engages them to experience the benefits of goal setting, discipline, teamwork, improved health and a feeling of accomplishment in a positive environment. In 2012, approximately 150 – 175 students from eight schools will cross the Finish Line!
