On November 6th I am running the New York City Marathon to raise at least $3,000 for Faces and Voices of Recovery. If you’re reading this, then you probably know that I’ve been in recovery for over two and a half years, and running is one of the things that has helped me stay sober and present in the moment. Faces and Voices is an incredible organization that wants to bring a face and a voice to recovery – to help erase the stigma of addiction. When more people help break the silence surrounding this disease, people will not be afraid or ashamed to ask for help.
Court and I are expecting a baby boy on January 22, 2012, and I want to be the best role model I can for him – healthy both physically and emotionally. I can’t think of a better event to tell him about when he gets older – that he got to be there to see me conquer a marathon and bring awareness to addiction.
I appreciate any donations, and every dollar will help me keep running – one step at a time – and help bring a face to addiction, which affects ALL types of people. I would especially appreciate if you would consider donating an amount per mile (a marathon is 26.2 miles), to help keep me going if I think I can’t make it.
