BENEFITING: GRACE LUTHERAN RESIDENTIAL SERVICES INC
AMOUNT RAISED OFFLINE: $5,779.00
HERE'S THE STORY:

Grace Community Services is seeking funding to renovate several rooms in its group homes for individuals with developmental disabilities to update them, make them more useful, and also make them more accessible for our residents.

Our home at 1930 Westfall Road in Rochester, NY is in dire need of a bathroom transformation.  The adaptive bathtub that we currently have, although still functional and quite loved, is no longer able to be repaired.  The company that designed it is out of business and parts can no longer be obtained.  We are looking for a more diminuative tub to open up the space, and while we are in the process of replacing it, we have decided that the original tile on the floor and wainscot is beyond its useful life.  We would like to replace all of that as well.

In addition to the bathroom project at Westfall, we would like to move the location of our current medication room.  The Westfall home was built and designed in 1987, and however well conceived at the time, our resident base has changed and therefore our consumers' needs have become more challenging.  Our current medication room shares space with the office, so we would like to break these two areas up.  The demands of the office, while our staff pass medications, can be quite distracting.  We anticipate that we will see a much decreased medication error percentage at the home, and we feel that the residents will enjoy a heightened sense of privacy in the home.

We are also looking to replace the doors on the cabinets to the kitchen of our group home on Jackson Road in Penfield.  The cabinets themselves are in fine shape, but the doors are made of fiber board.  As a result the hinges are compromised from use.  They repeatedly fall off and need adjustment.  We anticipate fewer injuries to consumers and staff if we were to replace these.
