I shall not stop until the planet is safe! (Which means I shall be here a while...) :-/

THE STORY:
A long time ago, I was a little kid in love with Star Wars. I was captivated by the magic of The Force, scared by Darth Vader, and inspired by the rebel alliance who stood up against the forces of evil despite impossible odds and incredible personal risk.
I'm almost 40 now, but still a boy at heart, and even though I understand the world is far more complex and nuanced than simple good vs. bad, the lessons I learned from cinematic fairy tales still resonate with me. They still resonate because I realize that sometimes we need black and white stories to remind us where we need to aim.
It seems only fitting that years after I was enthralled by Star Wars, I find myself "on the same side" as Harrison Ford, the man who brought Han Solo (AND Indiana Jones, but don't get me started) to life. He has been standing up for the real life planet of Earth (not Tattoine or Alderaan, or Hoth, or...) against forces that would threaten it, and he's doing it in a positive and constructive way.
Today, I found that Mr. Ford, one of my life long moral icons, actually read comments I'd made on this site!! That's right, Han Freaking Solo bothered to acknowledge my puny efforts to help try and save this troubled Earth, and better yet, he actually knew I meant "crusty old sock" in the most glowing and respectful of terms! (I wrote that here when I set up the account. Who knew he'd read that?!!?!)
In light of this, I'm digging deeper than I've ever dug for an organization. $300 more goes to Conservation International:
$100 for my friends, who may have let their childhood "Force" weaken,
$100 in memory of my father Alden who drove me to Regina, SK to see Star Wars in 1979,
and $100 to acknowledge Harrison Ford's sense of humor and commitment. I truly respect and appreciate him (and I hope he bothers to read THIS too!).
I continue to challenge everyone to give what they can.
My hat is off to everyone on the team, and thanks to Crowdwise for making it all fun!
I just celebrated my 40th birthday, and my friends donated money instead of buying me stuff. Thanks to all of them for being such great, great people!! 2 years ago
Donation made on behalf of my uncle Arl. I didn't buy him anything for his birthday, so instead he gets the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing his loss is the planet's gain. 2 years ago
Also to Dad, who drove also drove Jason and me to Moose Jaw to see Return of the Jedi, which was one of the best days of our little lives. :) 2 years ago
Dude, you shouldn't have to be the only one donating to your campaign! Good luck. :) 2 years ago
