BENEFITING: Vermont Foodbank

THE STORY:

On August 28, 2011 Tropical Storm Irene hit New England with the brunt of it's force in my home state of Vermont. The storm caused flash flooding, power outages and destruction of roads, bridges and property statewide. This is the worst flood Vermont has had in a CENTURY! 

Over 200 roads in the state have been closed or completely washed away, leaving people either unable to get to their homes or stuck in their houses that are now  flooded with river water.

As a displaced Vermonter I feel completely helpless in this situation as my friends, family and neighbors suffer through this natural disaster. My goal is to help in a small way by raising money for the Vermont Foodbank.

The Vermont Foodbank is the state's largest hunger relief organization. They provide food for all the local food shelves, shelters, senior centers and after school programs. Donating just $1 to the Vermont Foodbank will provide enough food for SIX meals to those in need.

During the disaster clean up when families are forced from their damaged homes and the emergency rescue, fire, and road crew workers are working around the clock, the Vermont Foodbank will provide food to the shelters to make sure all these people are fed. And when people are out of work, the foodbank will help make sure their children don't go hungry.

Small steps can make a big difference. Please help fight hunger in the Green Mountains.
