BENEFITING: HIGH FIVES NONPROFIT FOUNDATION
HERE'S THE STORY:

Jake Hickman, High Fives Non-Profit Foundation
Winter Empowerment Fund - Highlighted Athlete

December 30, 2011 - The High Fives Non-Profit Foundation (Truckee, CA):

“Jake Hickman is a strong young man who is a shining example of how one can stand victoriously atop the world one day, and then have it crashing down the next. The North Tahoe High School Junior is one of the nation's elite freestyle mogul skiers. A Squaw Freestyle Team athlete, the reigning Far West Champion, 14th overall at US Freestyle Nationals, J2 National Champion and nominated Nor-Am Rookie of the Year, Hickman claimed an impressive 4th place at U.S. National Team Selections in Steamboat on December 22nd, 2011, beaten by a champion more than 10 years his elder. Jake's World Cup and Olympic dreams were within reach as he skied the run of his life. Then, the following day during a training run, a misaligned air caused him to crash onto his back. The promising elite athlete screamed as he couldn't feel his legs; fearing the worst.

Now, Jake is joined by his fans, friends, family, and fellow competitors in his first new successes as he takes his first steps, one foot forward. As in the start gate above each daunting mogul competition, Jake approaches his current task with a disciplined focus to accomplish his goal. Respected by his peers for his mentoring attitude and keen interest in sharing and absorbing new skills on snow, Jake will be relying on the support of High Fives athletes, and you, the generous donors who will help him return to greatness. In a Denver hospital where Jake and his devoted family painstakingly work to get him walking again, he is showing impressive bravery and desire to conquer this tragedy. His will, learned through the same training that awarded him many podiums, will aid his recovery, but his family will need the support to be there along the way.” - Jason Dobbs – Head Coach, Squaw Valley Freestyle Team

The High Fives Foundation welcomes Jake Hickman as a Highlighted Athlete in the Winter Empowerment Fund, Jake’s physical therapies and alternative healing can be covered through donations en route to his return to the sport he loves and has subsequently shown amazing promise in. All donations are fully tax deductible and help keep his dream alive. The 20th assisted athlete to date since the inception on January 19, 2009, Jake has a promising outlook as everybody can High Five him on his path to recovery.
