HERE'S THE STORY:

If you have ever heard me talk about my marathon experience, you will probably remember not so found memories of my first and only, to date, 26.2 miles on foot at Disney a couple of years ago. I have said a number of times since that event that I have no interest in taking on another marathon, then Jimmy and his cause came along.

As a little bit of background, I have known Jimmy for a little of 10 years now. We went to business school together and took jobs at the same company immediately after graduation. Jimmy is one of the most passionate and hard working people I know. I guess I don't have to mention but I will, he is a great salesman.

Long story short, Jimmy and I have gone our separate ways, but have kept in touch. Now he is one of the board members of Executives Without Borders and he has asked me to run with his team to help raise money for their projects. Back to his sales effectiveness for a minute, his pitch was pretty compelling and next thing I know I am the proud owner of a new George Foreman Grill, I mean charitable entry into the New York Marathon.

What does that mean? It means that I have agreed to raise $3000 for his cause and for that commitment I get a race number and a shuttle ride to the start of the New York City marathon. That is it. No airfare, no hotel room, no food, just a race number.

A quick intro to Executives Without Borders - Executives Without Borders (ExecWB) assists developing communities around the world to improve the delivery of basic services and create sustainable economies. In most of these communities there are smart people who know what needs to be done but lack access to the resources and knowledge to make it happen. Many fantastic mission-hearted organizations are assisting these communities and ExecWB finds that they can improve outcomes and sustainability by adding business-minds to their cause.

We are all familiar with the devastation that the earthquakes brought to Haiti earlier this year. Executives Without Borders is there assisting the coordination of projects to assist in the reconstruction. Projects focus on job creation, recycling, safe water, and shelter.

Putting our money where our mouths are, Jaime and I are giving $262 to the cause, which will be matched by Jaime's employer. Please join us and help fund this great organization which has great leadership.
