Hi, my name is Jodee and I'm a first-year master's student at the University of Michigan School of Information, specializing in Social Computing. A former music business marketing and sales maven, I came to SI to cultivate my tech skills and pursue a new career path. I am interested in social media marketing, online community management, and information architecture.
I am so excited to attend Alternative Spring Break this year! I will be doing a social media project at the Smithsonian Folkways record label, which is an amazing opportunity to bridge my old career with my next career. Although I used to travel non-stop for my old job, I somehow never made it to Washington DC before - so I am so excited to see the nation's capitol and visit historical sites.
As a mother of two small children, I will be sticking close to Ann Arbor for my internship this summer. The one-week ASB trip is the perfect opportunity for me to work in another city and gain new experience.
My Project:
Smithsonian Folkways Recordings is the nonprofit record label of the Smithsonian Institution, the national museum of the United States.
Dedicated to supporting cultural diversity and increased understanding among peoples through the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of sound.
We believe that musical and cultural diversity contributes to the vitality and quality of life throughout the world. Through the dissemination of audio recordings and educational materials we seek to strengthen people's engagement with their own cultural heritage and to enhance their awareness and appreciation of the cultural heritage of others.
