THE STORY:

At 22 years old, Colombian filmmaker Juan Pablo Félix, wanted to make a difference. He gathered his fellow crew members, his best cameras and sound equipment and wandered into Suba, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Bogota, Colombia.

He was not robbed, kidnapped, or murdered. With what he and his comrades brought with them, Pablo gathered gang members, children, prostitutes, thieves, and just plain impoverished people and taught them how to write, produce, light, record, act, shoot, and edit their own films.

The result of this great endeavor was a massive drop in murder, crime, and death rates in Suba. The project would be called "Visajes". Several of his past students were able to leave their lives of crime and now have jobs in film and with local television channels. Others have acted in films like "Wind Journeys" and "La Playa D.C." that brought his students from extremely remote and low-income areas of Colombia all the way to Cannes Film Festival in 2010 and 2012.
( Pablo's actors are going to Cannes this year! Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypBZ1zdUYTY )

It is proof that art can change the world.

Since then, Juan Pablo's work has taken him all over the world with the help of the Colombian Government, UNICEF, and the European Union. His workshops have been seen throughout Latin america, New York City, and Germany where he realized the same social endeavor with immigrant orphans, which he chronicled in his award-winning documentary, "The Perfect Dream".

Now, Pablo needs your help.

Columbia University has accepted Juan Pablo Félix among six other students to be a part of its prestigious Directing M.F.A. program with a $10,000 scholarship. He has also received the Fulbright Scholarship to aid in his living expenses.

This leaves $50,000 unaccounted for.

Why should you donate?

Because Pablo will not be just one student among six at Columbia University. Multiply him by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world to whom he will pass on what he has learned. You will make the artistic education of thousands of people living in poverty turn into an exciting reality.

If he does not raise enough money within the next 3 months, he will lose his spot in the program.

Please donate to keep alive his mission of bringing social change to the world through the art of filmmaking. Any amount helps.

Thank you for helping us make a difference.
