Art Therapy. Music Therapy. Dance/Movement Therapy.
Kardon Institute traces its origins to the visionary philanthropy of its founder, Emanuel S. Kardon. In 1976, Manny sought to unite his two passions, Moss Rehabilitation Hospital and Settlement Music School with a therapeutic music program. This pilot initiative used the process of playing an instrument as a therapeutic physical activity for children with disabilities.
Over the years, the increasing sophistication of the creative arts therapy community was embraced by the Kardon Institute staff and has brought us to a position as one of the country’s most comprehensive creative arts therapy providers.
Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy’s mission, to assist individuals with special needs to achieve personal growth through the arts, defines our core constituency and drives us to continually seek new approaches in music, dance/movement and art therapies. Our goal always is to create a therapeutic impact on the lives of children and adults with cognitive, developmental, physical, neurological, behavioral and psycho-social disabilities.
These clients are most active in our individual therapy program, attending sessions at Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy headquarters in Northeast Philadelphia and at our satellite locations throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region.
Additional clients are seen through our contract services program that brings Kardon Institute therapists to over forty group homes, agencies and schools providing group sessions to nearly 1800 clients weekly.
We also have several special group programs and projects. These include: the Kardon Chorale, Computer Music Lab, Safe Expressions for at-risk youth, Early Intervention, Family Music and Movement Circles for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their Families, and Home-Based Music Therapy for the Frail Elderly.
