STUFF ABOUT ME:

ed norton did a nat geo (strange days on planet earth) about the plastic on our beaches and in our waters. i was so shocked at our flagrant disposal of this material--THAT NEVER BIODEGRADES! i want my children to see that when people work together--big things can happen. i am planning a coastal cleanup. the date is a bit up in the air. i want to make sure our efforts are helpful for the plastic issue but most importantly preventing more marinelife deaths and destruction of waters, marshes, etc. and helping with containing the catastrophe. i will post the date as soon as i know it. please join my team and lets kick some oil and plastic butt. the cause nearest and dearest to my heart though is suicide awareness and prevention. i lost my husband, David, to suicide on October 28, 2009. my wish is to make suicide a topic that doesnt provoke shame, guilt or fear. by providing education, understanding and resources to people contemplating suicide and providing resources for survivors---MAYBE we can prevent one more person from taking their life and leaving family and friends with a hole in their hearts as big as the world. it is my mission to remove the stigma associated with suicide. PLEASE help me. most suicides, according to suicide.org, are the result of an untreated mental illness......we can make a difference. if you or someone you know is thinking of hurting themselves--dont!!! we can, by leaning on each other, overcome the stresses leading to the thought of ending your life. you are not alone. i care about you, friend. everyone here on this site cares.....very much. please dont make a decision in crisis that cant be undone. it will get better. i promise.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ME:

vote for me if you think the project is needed. vote for me if you want our coasts and waters preserved for our children and theirs. vote for one more person choosing to muster the courage to try and carry on. we are all trying so hard to preserve our earth---lets put some of our energy to its people, too. thank you for your interest--if you dont join me, please join another team.

Happy May! It’s finally spring, and kids will soon be running out the school doors into sweet summer freedom. But over 19,000,000 children across the country do not own a single book. Can you imagine a summer without even a little fun reading?

Please take a minute to check out Reader to Reader's newest fundraiser with Twive & Receive: http://twive.razoo.com/story/Amherst-Loves-Books Your donation on June 14th could help us win a share of $30,000! Now more than ever, the smallest donation can have a huge impact. You can sign up for a reminder email on our page, or if you just can't wait to get books in the hands of children, donate now. Thank you for your support!

Happy April, CR friend!
Reader to Reader is auctioning off some great artwork to raise funds for our many international programs, thanks to our friends at the ART4GOOD Foundation. If you like art, books, or education, stop by and take a look at the 35 beautiful pieces available! http://bit.ly/HjFtMO
You get a beautiful piece of art, and RTR can:
-provide special education programs for children in the Dominican Republic;
-teach women to read in Nigeria;
-keep abandoned children in childhood through reading and improve theater in rural China;
-sponsor Haitian kids to finish school;
-continue to grow our public library in a coffee-farming Costa Rican village;
AND support many other programs that do wonderful work in India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Kosovo, Ghana and other countries.
If art isn’t your thing, you can still support our programs by donating or joining our team. Take a look at my projects to see more of what we do.
All the best, and HAPPY READING,

Happy March! This is a month of really awesome holidays. International Women's Day, International Reading Day, Dr. Seuss Day, St Patrick's Day.. and who could forget Alien Abduction Day?

In honor of these wonderful holidays, many of which support women and reading, To Mother With Love is announcing a $500 challenge grant from a local donor. Every dollar donated to our project, up to $500, will be matched! Please give to support the women of Ikenne, Nigeria, who have for so long sacrificed for their children to become educated, but cannot read themselves. If you are unable to donate this month, please pass along this opportunity or become a team member. Thank you for your support!
