Hmm, not so much about me but more on the organizations I like to help support:
The Elephant Sanctuary – an organization that provides refuge for endangered African and Asian elephants outside Nashville, TN. The sanctuary provides a haven of 2,700 acres where the elephants can roam freely in a natural habitat. You may have seen articles on the remarkable relationship between Tarra, an elephant and Bella, a dog.
Nurturing Minds in Africa provides financial and technical support to programs improving access to quality education for girls in Tanzania, with a particular emphasis on girls who are poor, marginalized, and at-risk of becoming involved in exploitative forms of child labor.
Keeper of the Mountain – Larry Gibson describes and documents the incredible destruction of entire mountains during mountain top removal, a type of coal mining. Not only must we stop blowing up mountains and creating toxic water systems but we need to come up with sustainable energy production.
Maasai Wilderness Conservation Fund – I learned about this organization last year when Edward Norton raised over a million dollars via social networking with the precursor for Crowdrise. The trust works on several levels, land conservation, something I’ve cared about for years, education and preservation of the Maasai way of life. It combines partners in conservation with leaders in the Maasai community.
