The Khan Academy is out to provide a free world-class education to anyone anywhere. WIRED and NExTWORK (our ongoing conversation on the future of the network) want to help Khan Academy raise $20,000 to translate 100 videos into languages other than English so more people can benefit.
WHAT IS KHAN ACADEMY? With more than 2000 free educational videos, Khan Academy is disrupting the education system for hundreds of thousands of students, giving them access to structured, step-by-step instruction that they can consume at their own pace, on their own time.
Millions of students from around the world have discovered Khan’s simple, straightforward lessons. Whether you’re a high school junior trying to master calculus or a business student brushing up on the finer points of finance and markets, Salman Khan’s got you covered. His videos are now being used in schools in several large districts across the United States.
THE MOST AMAZING PART The Khan Academy method not only helps students learn, it helps teachers teach. Since the lessons are recorded, the lecture happens at home and the homework is happening at the classroom, he says. This flip on traditional learning means that teachers spend less time talking in front of the class and more time on one-to-one instruction, jumping in when a student is having trouble with a concept or problem.
