Hi and thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I have decided to run the Boston Marathon as a part of the Perkin's School for the Blind. Let me share with you why I feel so blessed that the Perkin's Team chose me to be a part of their running team.
- Most of you know our 13 year old son, Nathan, has Achromatopsia. Achromatopsia is a genetic eye disease that affects the rods and cones of his eyes. He is missing 80% of his cones and therefore doesn't have color vision, depth perception, visual acuity and cannot diffuse light. He is legally blind but accommodates so well to his surrounding that most people who don't know him wouldn't realize the difficulties he struggles with daily.
- As a child I was completely infatuated with Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan. I read many of the books written about their beautiful story. When I researched the Perkin's School for the Blind, and learned that Helen Keller actually attended the Perkin's School AND Annie Sullivan was her teacher at this school, I knew I had found the perfect match.
- I was thrilled when the Perkin's Team chose me to be a part of their charity group. I know the monies raised will help those attending Perkin's School for the blind but will also bring attention to the many ohter individuals who struggle with visual impairments.
- 100% of the monies donated to my fundraiser will go to the Perkin's School for the blind. None of the monies go to offset my travel expenses.
I will be dedicating all my efforts to Nathan as it is very difficult , as his parent, to watch him struggle each day and not be able to do anything about it.
