THE STORY:
This project is to help raise funds for the non-profit I work for, City Year. City Year is an organization that is founded on the principle that young people can change the world. 17-24 year olds are recruited from all over the country to commit to a year of full time service as tutors, mentors and role models. The majority of the City Year Corps in Los Angeles works in schools throughout Los Angeles to give children the support needed to foster academic and personal growth.
Along with that, City Year has a team that works to provide a Saturday Service Program for Middle School students. This is the program I work for, and it is called the Young Heroes program. It gives students the opportunity to learn about social justice issues facing thier communities (homelessness, domestic violence, environmentalism, etc...) and the tools to work to better thier communities. The Young Heroes commit to 100 hours of service over the course of 6 months, and they are really making an impact throughout the City of Los Angeles.
