Jack Walsh's Fundraiser:
Light, Fire, Water
Jack
HOURS PLEDGED: 20
HERE'S THE STORY:
My name is Jack Walsh, and I am an American living in Bangalore, India. Everyday on my hour-long ride to school through poor, rural towns, I see many people who do not have access to basic necessities such as electricity and clean water. These are things that you and I take completely for granted. We couldn’t even IMAGINE our lives without luxuries such as the Internet, our iPods, and our favorite candy.
The people in these rural villages struggle everyday. I have become involved with an organization—Home of Hope India—which is taking some initiative to help change this. This organization reaches out to poor families in the villages of Bangalore which surround their multiple orphanages and facilities, run by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco. The Sisters do a lot of work in these villages, and see that there is inconsistent access to clean drinking water (this causes illness and disease), limited access to electricity, and too much smoke while preparing meals (this leads to frequent respiratory problems in the family).
LIGHT, FIRE, WATER, a new initiative by Home of Hope—India, aims to solve these problems. They propose to provide:
1) A solar-powered source of energy (lights!)
2) A simple water filter with a capacity of 55 gallons per day
3) An efficient, clean-burning stove
These 3 things (costing a total of $250 USD) will be provided to families on an ability-to-pay basis. The money received in return from these families will be paid forward to buy this life-saving package for ANOTHER family.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
I have pledged to raise $5,000 to buy inventory to start this project. You can help by donating-- however much you want—whether its $10 or $500, everything counts and every donation is equally appreciated! PLEASE tell everyone you can, the more money we raise the more families we can help. Its easy to donate—you can borrow your parents credit card and hand them the cash, WHATEVER WORKS.
THIS is YOUR chance to help real people and change their lives for the good—so for all of you who’ve been wanting to make a difference, this is a good place to start. ALSO, remember that I promised them $5,000… PLEASE don’t leave me hangin’, I don’t wanna come up short. THANK YOU!! DONATE NOW!!
