Friends, As we approach the…
Friends,

As we approach the holiday season, I want to take time to thank all of you for your past support of Mattresses for Congo. Thanks to you, we have accomplished a great deal, and hope to continue working to support the mission hospitals in Congo.

We are excited about some new projects that we have begun and hope to completed in the coming year. The most urgent project is to raise funds to reopen the Tudisha Bana Bimpe nutrition center in Tshikaji. The center educates new mothers about proper nutrition, and feeds fifteen malnourished children three healthy meals per day. When their mothers have been given the tools to better care for their children, and the child's condition has improved, they move on, and new moms and children are brought into the center.

The cost to feed one child is $2.00 per day; the total cost to operate the center per month is just under $1,000.00. We are encouraging donors to consider making a recurring monthly gift of any size, to support this project. To learn more, visit the Mattresses for Congo Projects page at http://www.mattressesforcongo.com/projects-1.html

We are also beginning to raise funds to provide new surgical instruments sets to the mission hospitals, and also, researching alternative fuel autoclaves that are capable of sterilizing larger surgical instruments. You can also visit the Projects link to learn more about these two projects.

Please share our efforts with your friends and family. The work we are doing together is important, and would have been impossible without you.

Blessings to you and yours,
Charles

Friends, I want to share so…
Friends,

I want to share some information about an event being hosted at my church, Northwood Presbyterian, in San Antonio. Now I know some of you don't live anywhere near SA, but some of you do, and might be interested. Or you might want to fly to SA just to attend.

Northwood will be hosting the 2013 Presbyterian Church (USA) Congo Mission Network Annual Conference, October 3-5. Attendees will include PCUSA World Missions leadership, missionaries traveling from Congo and Congolese Presbyterians. While the event is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, anyone who is interested in Congo is welcome to attend.

If you are interested, but not able to attend the conference, there will be a program called Congo 101 on the evening of Friday, October 4. It is open to the public and will begin with a BBQ dinner ($10 per plate) at 5:30 p.m., followed by a program beginning at 7:00. During the program, issues facing Congo will be discussed, including healthcare, education, advocacy, women's issues and evangelism. The war and conflict minerals will also be addressed.

The link for registration for the conference is https: //www.regonline.com/congomissionnetworkconference2013

Message me if you are interested and want more information.
Thanks again for all the past support.

Hey,

I know a lot of times when we donate money for a cause, we are left wondering if it went where it was supposed to, whether it made any difference. I'm here to tell you, the money you guys gave to help with the mattresses did. Not only did it help with the patient care, it also helped the morale of the medical staff. Can you imagine trying to care for patients that are sleeping on the floor?

I'm attaching a link to a Youtube video that I put together. No on will ever confuse me for knowing much about video production, but I think it tells the story. I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch it and see how your support has made a difference. We are continuing to look for ways to help these hospitals.

Hey, we just arrived back in…
Hey, we just arrived back in Kinshasa after spending the last eight days in the Kasai. We arrived in Kananga on 6/13 and made visits to the hospitals in Tshikaji, Kananga, Bibanga, Luebo, and Bulape. The mattresses that you helped provided have made a big impact, not only with regard to patient care, but also with the morale of the staff. These places are some of the most remote places on earth, and the folks at these hospitals now know that they are known and cared about.

We're worn out after going nonstop for the past couple of weeks, but I hope to get out more a more detailed report with photos and some video soon.

Thanks again for being a part of the success of Mattresses for Congo.

Take care

Friends,

I'm writing this from Tshikaji, DRC. We arrived in Kinshasa on June 10, and flew to Kananga on June 13. Since arriving here, we've had the opportunity to visit PAX Hospital, IMCK/Good Shepherd Hospital and the Butoke Clinic and Orphanage, where we've been able to see how their new mattresses have benefitted them and their patients. Maybe just as important, the people who work at these places know that they are known and cared about by you.

Tomorrow we will depart Kananga via an MAF plane, to visit Mbuji Mayi, Bulape, Bibanba and Luebo where will be visiting more hospitals that received mattresses. Once I return home, I will put out a report, with photos, about the status of the MFC project, that you have made a success. In the mean time, I've posted some photos on the MFC Facebook page.

Please continue to tell your friends, you church, you co-workers and anyone else you can think of about Mattresses for Congo; we've got more work to do.

Thanks again for all you've done.

Friends,

I want to take a few minutes to thank you all once again for your generous support for Mattresses for Congo over the past twelve months. On June 6, it will be one year since we created MFC with the purpose of raising funds to purchase 375 new hospital mattresses for the mission hospitals in the Kasai. As of this writing, we've raised a total of $61,945.00, and delivered those 375 mattresses to hospitals in Kananga, Luebo, Tshikaji, Bulape, Moma and Mboi. We've also delivered some to the Butoke Orphanage and Clinic in Tshikaji, and will be delivering an additional 25 mattresses to them in the near future. In addition, MFC has provided funds for mattresses and other medical equipment and projects at clinics in Kinshasa.

I leave for Congo on June 3, and will be visiting most of the beneficiaries of your generous support. Our group will also be taking over twenty trunks full of medical supplies and equipment to these same hospitals and clinics, all of which has been donated by individuals and businesses.

While we are in Congo, we will be looking and listening , to see how we can continue to expand our project to help the people of Congo. I will be posting photos to the Mattresses for Congo Facebook page, so if you haven't already done so, visit the page at https://www.facebook.com/MattressesForCongo?fref=ts and "Like" it and be watching for pics.

Thanks again for your kindness.
