HERE'S THE STORY:
On Sunday, October 3, 2010, Literacy Network will host the 20th annual Run/Walk in the Madison area, which is the largest literacy fundraising event in Wisconsin.
Help us to increase literacy rates in Dane County. People living near the Madison area are encouraged to participate in either our 5K walk, 5K run, or our 10K run through State and Gorham Streets. Either as an individual or with a team, we ask our participants to raise funds as support for their efforts. Prizes will be awarded to those with the most funds, but support of any kind is greatly appreciated.
All the funds raised through the Run/Walk support Literacy Network and its efforts to help its learners reach their goals, such as reading to their children, filling out job applications, and reading medical information. Anyone can be a part of someone’s success story by supporting this event and/or by becoming a volunteer tutor.
Our 2010-2013 Strategic Initiatives include: ensuring that we have a well-prepared group of staff and volunteers to provide a quality educational experience, enhancing marketing efforts to improve the visibility of Literacy Network, improving the use of technology for the benefit of our learners, focusing on positive outcomes and results for our learners, identifying improved partnerships and growth opportunities for Literacy Network, and providing sufficient financial resources to rebuild reserves and ensure long-term sustainability of Literacy Network programming. The Run/Walk is one of the fundraising events we host in order to help us achieve these goals.
