Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter provides professional health care and comfort to people with life-limiting illness and offers hope, support, and education to people in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties in North Carolina.

Hospice is a benefit that offers healthcare, assistance, and education to support patients and their families facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness. It is individualized care that offers compassion, dignity, comfort, respect, and someone to call for assistance - day and night.

Infants, children, and adults who face a life-limiting illness are hospice patients. Their disease diagnosis can include cancer, end-stage chronic illnesses such as lung, heart, and kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, dementia, strokes, ALS, and neurological diseases.

Most hospice patients receive care and support in their own home, in familiar surroundings with loved ones. Home is wherever a patient lives and can include assisted living facilities, rest homes, and nursing homes. Patients are also served in hospitals and our hospice care centers in Wilmington and Whiteville, N.C.

The last photo is of Susan Desloge and her son Michael, who passed away at home in hospice care at age 27. Susan says, “Hospice is a busload of angels who arrive at your door. The hospice team walks you through everything. They managed Michael’s care and supported the rest of the household – family and friends. Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter helped us through the worst time of our life,” Susan says, “Hospice is the best organization on earth.”

The organization is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is an affiliate of New Hanover Health Network. It is approved by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Inc. and is a member of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care, and the Hospice Provider Network.
