August vote for you! Did you know that 60% of low-income children do not own a single book? School and public libraries are their only source of reading material, yet budget cuts leave many libraries unable to buy new books, or even without a full-time librarian. Reading is so important to a kid's education. Would you help Reader to Reader bring books to low-income schools and libraries across the country? A $10 donation sends a much-needed box of books. If you can't give, please join our team and ask others to help change the world, one book at a time. Thank you!

Summer is here, and I’m …
Summer is here, and I’m sure you’re looking forward to enjoying its glory. (I am!) But did you know that kids forget 1-3 months of learning during the summer? That’s 1-3 months of what they learned the year before, needing to be retaught in the fall before they can even start learning new material. This summer learning loss is worse in disadvantaged children, and widens the achievement gap further.
Summer learning programs are important to keep children’s brains active and engaged. Reader to Reader runs three summer programs, including one with both parents and children to increase family literacy. We have a lot of fun, and we learn A LOT!
Please help us keep summer learning fun and engaging for low-income families in western Massachusetts by joining our team, spreading the word and if you can, donating to Reader to Reader. Your support helps us keep kids reading, learning and succeeding!

Happy June! It’s finally spring, and kids will soon be running out the school doors into sweet summer freedom. But over 19,000,000 children across the country do not own a single book. Can you imagine a summer without even a little fun reading?

Please take a minute to check out Reader to Reader's newest fundraiser with Twive & Receive: http://twive.razoo.com/story/Amherst-Loves-Books Your donation on June 14th could help us win a share of $30,000! Now more than ever, the smallest donation can have a huge impact. You can sign up for a reminder email on our page, or if you just can't wait to get books in the hands of children, donate now. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Crowdrise vote coming your way :)

Can you help spread joy to VERY deserving children? By donating $20 to Imagine Scholar's student birthday project, you'll produce the purest kind of excitement and a lifelong memory. Our 25 students have never had the chance to celebrate a birthday before, let alone eat cake. With every $20 donation comes photo footage of one of the student's special day :)

Best wishes,
Megan + Imagine Scholar Team

Happy April, CR friend! Reader…
Happy April, CR friend!
Reader to Reader is auctioning off some great artwork to raise funds for our many international programs, thanks to our friends at the ART4GOOD Foundation. If you like art, books, or education, stop by and take a look at the 35 beautiful pieces available! http://bit.ly/HjFtMO
You get a beautiful piece of art, and RTR can:
-provide special education programs for children in the Dominican Republic;
-teach women to read in Nigeria;
-keep abandoned children in childhood through reading and improve theater in rural China;
-sponsor Haitian kids to finish school;
-continue to grow our public library in a coffee-farming Costa Rican village;
AND support many other programs that do wonderful work in India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Kosovo, Ghana and other countries.
If art isn’t your thing, you can still support our programs by donating or joining our team. Take a look at my projects to see more of what we do.
All the best, and HAPPY READING,
Kat

Happy February, Crowdrise frie…
Happy February, Crowdrise friend! Thank you for your support, through your donations, votes, advocacy and friendliness. You probably know all about the amazing promos that CR runs. Right now, I think the most awesome is the chance to win an iPad 2. Every time you donate $26, you are entered to win.

Your $26 donation to a Reader to Reader project would help us send 2 boxes full of books to an under-resourced library here in the states, or support special education in the DR, or get a women's school built in Nigeria, or get books to families in transition... there are plenty of choices and who knows, you might get lucky!

Happy reading,
Kat

Happy New Year! A vote from me…
Happy New Year! A vote from me to you, and remember to find the time to read something this year, in between all the wonderful work you do!

"These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds alive on the shelves. From each of them goes out its own voice... and just as the touch of a button on our set will fill the room with music, so by taking down one of these volumes and opening it, one can call into range the voice of a man far distant in time and space, and hear him speaking to us, mind to mind, heart to heart." ~Gilbert Highet
