October vote for you, just in time for Halloween! Wanna hear something scary? Children in low-income neighborhoods have access to only one age-appropriate book on average for every 300 children. Only ONE book! That impacts over 16,400,000 children in the United States.

Even more frightening, 80% of preschool and after-school programs serving low-income populations have no age-appropriate books for their children. Books are so important to a child’s development for learning, imagination and literacy.

Please help Reader to Reader get books into these communities. We donate hundreds of thousands of books each year directly to schools, after-school programs, classrooms, day care programs and other groups serving low-income children across the country. Thank you for your donation to our work in Haiti as well as making my birthday extra special. I just got back from Port au Prince and saw first hand what this gift will do. So far we have collected over 12 million bottles, created over 1000 formal and informal jobs and educated over 45,000 people in health and sanitation. About 14 months ago no one believed we could make it work. Now they are believers and Haitians no longer throw their bottles on the ground and in the canals.

Thanks for brining us Crowdrise and making it easy for people to get involved. I don't have much experience on camera and in the media so please feel free to give me advice on better getting out our important message.
