STUFF ABOUT ME:

I'm an actor and social activist who's been involved in social advocacy for a long time. I founded the Los Angeles Homeless Coalition, offering shelter, relief and skills training to the homeless population throughout the city.

In the winter of 2012, I'll be producing Earth Echoes, a theatrical production that will run in Los Angeles as a benefit for several nonprofit groups.

I studied Acting at the American Conservatory Theatre and served on the Board of Directors of the Alliance Repertory Company and Theatre East. I volunteer teaching Drama and Voice & Movement at the Academy of Music for the Blind, where I also serve on the Advisory Board.

Other Advisory Boards: ElephantVoices, DreamCatcher Wild Horse & Burro Sanctuary, Born Free USA and the National Equine Resource Network and with Dr. Jane Goodall on the Advisory Council for Save the Chimps, the world's largest chimpanzee refuge, which is a permanent retirement sanctuary for over 300 chimpanzees released from the NASA space research program, biomedical laboratories and the entertainment & pet trades.

Board: TheTenDollarClub.org, a nonprofit that funds poverty alleviation projects around the world. To date, we have undertaken 80 projects in 62 countries, providing life changing services for thousands of people in underdeveloped countries.

Happy May! It’s finally spring, and kids will soon be running out the school doors into sweet summer freedom. But over 19,000,000 children across the country do not own a single book. Can you imagine a summer without even a little fun reading?

Please take a minute to check out Reader to Reader's newest fundraiser with Twive & Receive: http://twive.razoo.com/story/Amherst-Loves-Books Your donation on June 14th could help us win a share of $30,000! Now more than ever, the smallest donation can have a huge impact. You can sign up for a reminder email on our page, or if you just can't wait to get books in the hands of children, donate now. Thank you for your support!

Happy April, CR friend!
Reader to Reader is auctioning off some great artwork to raise funds for our many international programs, thanks to our friends at the ART4GOOD Foundation. If you like art, books, or education, stop by and take a look at the 35 beautiful pieces available! http://bit.ly/HjFtMO
You get a beautiful piece of art, and RTR can:
-provide special education programs for children in the Dominican Republic;
-teach women to read in Nigeria;
-keep abandoned children in childhood through reading and improve theater in rural China;
-sponsor Haitian kids to finish school;
-continue to grow our public library in a coffee-farming Costa Rican village;
AND support many other programs that do wonderful work in India, Mexico, Nicaragua, Kosovo, Ghana and other countries.
If art isn’t your thing, you can still support our programs by donating or joining our team. Take a look at my projects to see more of what we do.
All the best, and HAPPY READING,
Kat

Hey Mariana, it's beautful what you have done so far with the homeless and all the other ways you give back. I am starting a Music Drive for Homeless Children in downtown LA at the School on Wheels Program. I would love somebody like you who is so involved changing the world to check out my fundraiser. Thanks, all the best.
