Well only hours to go to the start of the marathon. My family just came back from the MGH pre-race dinner where the patients who are paired with runners are mentioned. It is very moving to see up close what this fundraising is all about - the families and children who go though the ordeal of childhood cancer. Very motivating and very humbling to see the tremendous strength and endurance of these special people.

I'm running specifically as a tribute to Natalie Cohen - a young girl from Cape Town who was one of my patients last year. She overcame an incredible challenge of a massive bone tumor in her chest, requiring multiple major operations that had never been performed previously. You can see her story at:

http://www.nataliescircleoflove.org/follow-natalies-journey/2012/04/15/dr-paul/

My bib number is 25446 - you can track my progress every 5 km on line, by email or text. I expect to start at 11 am EST, and take about 4 hours. The website is http://www.baa.org/ - register on the day. Watch your investment in action LIVE! (I'll be right behind the Kenyans....)

Thanks so much for making this happen!! I really appreciate the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon - thanks for giving me the experience, and for helping these fantastic families. Running 42.2 K is not too tough - raising $5K is much more challenging. I will do the jogging but you have done the harder and more productive part - raising the money for a great cause.

Quick update and race day info.

I'm totally amazed at the support that continues to come in as the Marathon is now merely 48 hours away.

We are up more than $11K and rising.

It looks like this will be the hottest Marathon day this century. I read somewhere that in 1907 it got to 100 degrees. I can't imagine running in those Pilgram outfits. Wow! ;-)

We are already winning and now my work is to represent your caring and support on race day. It may be a heavy load but you are the people and purpose that I chose to carry.

Whatever the distance / whatever the load / we are in it to do something Epic... TOGETHER... and we will!

If you want to follow my progress during the race you can go to the BAA site and sign up for Athlete Alerts via text or email.

My bib # is 24740.

My deepest thanks,

While I think your support is awesome and I'm honored to have it I feel that in full-disclosure you should know that I'm not the "anonymous" donor that is repeatedly donating to your amazing cause. Never the less I'm glad to support you / you are amazing to support me. You are doing great things and I'm psyched for you. Let's be safe, run smart, and finish this run... who wan't to share a finish photo with a bunch of EMTs (no offense). ;-)

All the best. Send along your Bib#.

Until race day- hydrate, elevate... then Monday... Dominate [That's Dominate not Domino's... save that for the post-race!]

Best,

Chris

Thank you for the support. Just like you I'll do anything for the kids... teenagers... we shall see. ;-) Lucky for you one of my guides is a Nurse in the ICU at Newton Wellesley so I'll have her keep an eye out for you on the course and in any enclosure with A/C... you won't be alone. I'll see you in Wave 3 Corral 9... that is where they put the 'special' runners... I'm not sure what that means exactly but I've always been special... the runner part freaks me out. Every mile celebrate... sooner if you need it... before you know it momentum will be propelling you forward. Send me your Bib so my kids can go bonkers for you in Wellesley... more than half-way to the finish!! I'm cheering for you as well on Monday and always. :-)

Btw, with 600 more points you'll be a Doctor on Crowdrise... Doctor Doctor... now that is F-A-N-C-Y!

Dear Margie, You're the best. Thank you and I hope to see you on the course. Don't let the warm weather psych you out. Just take it a little slower and stay hydrated and I bet you'll have a great run. Let the crowd carry you along the course. It's so awesome. Phoebe

Stuff About Me:

Why am I running the marathon? Because I can!   I am running on behalf of children and their families who are left with the unbelievable task of facing a future with a life limiting illness.  I am running to raise money for Pediatric Palliative care. What is palliative care? Palliative care is care given to to children  to  help improve their quality of life and to bring joy to them and their families as they fight life limiting illness. The funds raised by the members of our team will go directly to the MGHfC Palliative Care program, which provides an additional layer of support for these children and families. The palliative care team focuses on maximizing a child’s quality of life, providing relief from pain, symptoms, and stress, smoothing transitions of care, coordinating communication, and improving a family’s experience of care.

My goal is to raise 5-10 thousand dollars for this worthy cause, but I can't do it alone. I need the support of my friends, family and colleagues to make my goal! Any donation of any size is welcome.

Many of my team members are partnering with individual children in their run. I have been doing this too long to do that! I am running with all the patients I have cared for in mind, those in the past, and those still bravely fighting their batlles.
