Giving back has always been a huge part of my life. I'm inspired by all of the wonderful organizations out there fighting for the causes that are changing our world for the better.
I'm new to Crowdrise, but I just love it -- what a great and easy way to support some amazing causes, and to find new ones to care about. And it's such a great way to meet people who care about activism.
Let me tell you about a few causes that are particularly close to my heart.
The CLOSER TO HOME CAPITAL CAMPAIGN for the LOWER CAPE FEAR HOSPICE is a really wonderful organization which is trying to raise enough funds to build a hospice center in Brunswick County, NC. Currently - amazingly - there is no care center in the entire county, which means that it's way too hard to make the all-important visits to family members, just when those visits are most important. Hospice allows loved ones to die with dignity - the work they do on a daily basis is just awe-inspiring. No one should have to travel an hour or more to accompany their loved one on their final journey. Please make a donation to this amazing charity. We have all been touched by someone's passing. And we can all be grateful organizations like Hospice exist. My dad Bill has been working with them for years - the work he does with them is deeply fulfilling, and I'm so grateful to him for introducing me to these amazing people.
The JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION does incredible, important work to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research, education and advocacy.
The OJAI PLAYWRIGHTS CONFERENCE stages a series of workshops every year to develop new American plays with a political consciousness.
Currently, I'm spending my time on Crowdrise helping Lower Cape Fear Hospice but I'll be launching projects for JDRF and Ojai in the near future.
