HERE'S THE STORY:

One of my good friends was diagnosed with MS last year (her father has it as well). I've seen how it has affected her daily life and so I'm here to support her - through a movie featuring one of my favorite actors nonetheless!
Happy to be on board.

World MS Day is May 26.

I'm promoting a pot movie to raise money for MS. Please keep reading. It gets better.

The black comedy "Leaves of Grass"stars Edward Norton, who plays twins in the film: one is an Ivy League philosophy professor and the other is a pot grower. Susan Sarandon, Richard Dreyfuss, Keri Russell and Tim Blake Nelson also star. The title is not only a reference to pot but also to Walt Whitman, who is discussed in the film. So it's an arthouse pot movie. Makes all the difference, doesn't it?

I'm doing this not only as a fundraiser but to raise public interest in the film, which, while it has received positive critical reviews, has had difficulty with distribution deals. There is no set release date for the film.

Why multiple sclerosis? I am newly diagnosed with MS (December 2009). I was diagnosed after developing fatigue and stroke-like symptoms on the right side of my body days before Thanksgiving. It was a shock. I immediately started Copaxone, which I inject subcutaneously every night, and started learning as much as I can about the disease. I am currently doing pretty well, other than needing to take Provigil to combat my fatigue. But this is a highly variable disease and so many people are worse off than I am. As somebody with MS experiencing relatively good health, I feel the responsibility to do everything I can in terms of fundraising and activism.

I thought it would be great to pair raising money for MS with something that I love (Edward Norton movies, not pot). I chose NMSS as my charity because I wasn't sure that Johns Hopkins would want my pot movie money.

So support the project and donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

If you're a little iffy about promoting a pot movie, why don't you send a Johns Hopkins neurologist up a mountain (and hopefully back down)

I am in no way connected to the film. This was not authorized in any way by the producers, stars, caterers, etc. of the film.
