Ever heard the phrase "what I wouldn't give to be a kid again"? Well, all you need to do is give a little, so these kids can be kids too.

HERE'S THE STORY:
Think back to your school days and picture the best days you can remember. Field trips probably stand out. How can we possibly forget how ridiculously awesome those giant dinosaurs and woolly mammoths were at the museum? Those seal shows and monkey exhibits at the zoo were a thing to be talked about for days, too. And field days? Spending an entire school day playing games in the park? Fuhgeddaboudit.
Unfortunately, some kids can go their entire childhood without ever visiting a museum or theater or zoo. A whopping 94% of New York City public schools don’t even have an athletic field. But New York Cares volunteers are there to help.
We keep them healthy and active on sports and fitness projects, bring out their creativity through arts and culture projects, and expose them to the unique activities and culture of New York City on recreational outings. We even sneak in a little education (shh, don’t tell ‘em) through our Play and Read and Study Now, Play Later programs.
Children’s Recreation projects involve more than just a play day with our volunteers, though. We have to create a safe environment for the kids, provide them with transportation, lunch, and send them home in one piece. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a worthy endeavor.
