New York Cares' Fundraiser:
Environment and Revitalization
New York Cares
DEADLINE TO GIVE: Apr 30, 2011
HERE'S THE STORY:
It doesn’t matter if you believe global warming is a myth, if you swear up and down that polar bears are mythical creatures, or if you’re still holding out for Pluto to be renamed a planet – any which way you look at it, our universe could use some spiffing up. We could flood you with pictures of shabby playgrounds, schools in need of a little TLC, and sad children to make you feel bad about the environment. But we could also just ask you to look at the grungy streets outside your window.
New York Cares volunteers work year-round to make sure that the public spaces New Yorkers share look awesome. We do everything from planting, weeding, mulching, and clearing debris in parks and gardens, to more creative projects like painting murals, or if you want it to sound trendy, “organized graffiti.” All the cool kids are doing it, you know.
Unfortunately, there’s a small catch. Paint? Expensive. Gardening tools? Expensive, too. Construction materials? Pretty pricey. We all know the environment needs a little pick-me-up. Although it would be very nice of you to run around hugging trees all day (bonus points if you send us a picture), we’d much prefer you donated $20 instead. Who knows? New York Cares might come by and turn that dirty alley you live next to into a modern-day Narnia.
All donations will support New York Cares' general programming, which provides critical services to 400,000 at-risk New Yorkers each year. For information on making donations to support specific programs, please contact Jennifer.Goldschein@newyorkcares.org.
