City Year South Los Angeles Team
THE STORY:
Goooooooooooooooood Morning/ Afternoon/ Evening. My name is Vera Kwan and I proudly serve as a Team Leader on the Disney Team in South Los Angeles at Normandie Avenue Elementary School. I have an amazing team of 7 full time volunteers/idealists/corps members who work at this school Mondays through Thursdays since October 2009. They are good at what they do and they know how to get things done for America. We run an afterschool program called Starfish Corps for 66 students. Soon our goal is to serve 70 students. We have done many events for our after school program and the school itself, such as a Talent Show, Attendance and Safety Assemblies, Movie Night, and co partnering for Earth Day South LA 2010 and a Health and Safety Fair. That is just the rim of what we have done for this school. BUT WE STILL NEED HELP TO END THIS YEAR WITH A BANG!!!
In the last few weeks of school, we are planning a DANCE for our after school program and the two other after school programs(May 20, 2010), a field trip to the California Science Center (June 3, 2010) and a two day Starfish Corps culmination for our students ( June 9-10, 2010).
FUNDRAISING GOAL:
Dance - A Black and White Affair - $20 for decorations to make it classy for our students
Field Trip - $25 for the reservation to go to the Science Center
Starfish Corps Culmination $55 for snacks and prizes to give to our students and their families
Whatever you can give, we will find a way to give it to these students. Thank you!!
