THE STORY:
TEFL INTERNATIONAL wrote -
1. Why North Korea?
Since 1990 up to 3.5 million of are claimed to have died from the North Korea famine. Approx. 100,000 children die each year. North Korea most inhumane practices
2. Why balloons?
Transport via balloons is the only reliable and certain access of reaching to common people of North Korea. North Korea Peace leader, Mr. Lee Ju Sung and other defectors had received flyers from such methods of delivery.
Thwarted intention: Traditional methods of food aid and money are used for empowering military and government regime. South Korea alone provided $6 BN of aid to North Korea, however, Ministry of Reunification surveyed 600 people of 20,000 North Korean defectors, 95% claimed they have never received any food never seen monetary or food aid.
3. Why socks?
-basic necessity and critical item especially in cold winters
-light-weight and small volume
-affordable (less than $1.00)
-could be converted to cash in North Korea to buy food for 1 month (1 pair of socks = 10,000 North Korean Won = 10 kg of corn = 30 days of food)
