BENEFITING: iMentor

ORGANIZER: iMentor

THE STORY:

Dear Friends & Family:

Some of you have heard me talk about iMentor and for others this will be the first you hear about it. It is a mentoring program that matches NYC professionals with high school students. The mentors/mentees email each other once a week via the iMentor website and meet in person once a month at sponsored events. These are the minimum requirements for the program but over time more frequent communication occurs and is encouraged.

I am 6 months into my 3 year match with Raheen. He is the second mentee that I have been paired with and he attends Careers in Sports High School located in the South Bronx. He is a well spoken, motivated young man who loves basketball and playing with computers. I look forward to partenering with him to explore ways he can create a plan that guides him to working with computers and web design. As a sophmore, it's important that we begin to focus on basic skills (time management/networking) to help him prepare for his next steps.

My first mentee Nelson is currently a freshmen at Bronx Community College. It was very rewarding to see Nelson grow over the two years I knew him. It was great to see him first get comfortable with the concept of college and then do everything he needed to ensure he would succeed once he was there.

Growing up in the Bronx, I understand that it can be difficult to find positive role models and mentors to help guide a young person in the right direction. People who know me know that I am very grateful for everyone who has acted as a Mentor or a Role Model as I have progressed through my life. I take pride in this opportunity to do the same for Raheen now. I am also a member of the Young Executive Board for iMentor and I continue to look for other ways to assist in the continued success of the program.

I know there is never a good time to ask for money but please consider donating to iMentor. Come on...skip one meal out or a few drinks after work. That money could really make a difference for the students who participate in this great program. If you can, please forward to anyone else who you think may be interested in donating. MOST IMPORTANTLY - consider becoming a Mentor yourself.

Thanks!
Jay

WELCOME!

Thanks for stopping by iMentor’s Online Donor Drive!

The Online Donor Drive (ODD) is a "friendraising" campaign aimed at raising funds to support iMentor's vital work.  The campaign asks iMentor’s 1800 mentors to create pages and invite their networks to support their passion for mentoring.  ODD is an outlet for crowdsourcing, fundraising and social interaction that allows pagemakers to tap into their competitive sides for a good cause!

Every dollar makes a difference.  A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events.  $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preperation events.  $500 sponsors a mentee’s participation for an entire year.

We have all had someone in our lives that we consider a role model or a mentor.  Don’t you think today’s youth deserve the same opportunity? iMentor makes this possible.

ABOUT IMENTOR

iMentor is the premiere mentoring program in NYC.  This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 professionals in one-on-one relationships with students from low income neighborhoods in NYC.  In addition, iMentor will bring our innovative model to thousands of students nationwide through our national program, iMentor Interactive.  Mentoring relationships are changing the trajectory of mentees’ lives by helping them graduate high school and enroll in college.

iMentor’s impact is best explained by the students we serve.  Kandace, a mentee from the Bronx, says; “My mentor gives me support in school and lets me know I can succeed. With her support, nothing can get me down. She lifts me up when I’m down and keeps me motivated.”
