THE STORY:

Family and Friends,

As many of you know, I have been a part of the iMentor organization for the last four years. Back in 2007, I was blessed with the opportunity to become Amauris’ mentor.  When I first met Amauris, he was very shy and quiet; after few minutes of chatting with him, I quickly learned that we shared many interests and experiences, including the fact that we both emigrated from the Dominican Republic.  When I asked Amauris about his post-high school plans, he advised me college was not in the picture for him.  Today he is wrapping up his sophomore year at York College.  He is also the first one in his family to attend college.

I am now  six months into my second mentoring match with Ezra, a junior at the Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports, which is located in the South Bronx. Ezra's family migrated from the Dominican and they currently reside in the Bronx. Ezra enjoys soccer, reading novels and comics, and spending time with his friends.

I feel more than blessed to be a part of these two young men’s lives.

Thank you all for your help!

Thommy

$500 sponsors a mentee’s participation for an entire year

More on iMentor:

iMentor is the premiere mentoring program in NYC.  This year alone, iMentor will match 1,800 professionals in one-on-one relationships with students from low income neighborhoods in NYC.  In addition, iMentor will bring our innovative model to thousands of students nationwide through our national program, iMentor Interactive.  Mentoring relationships are changing the trajectory of mentees’ lives by helping them graduate high school and enroll in college.

iMentor was founded in 1999 by hedge-fund manager John Griffin (Blue Ridge Capital), and two civil rights attorneys, Rich Buery and Matt Klein.  The program began with 49 students in one school in the South Bronx. In just over ten years of operation, iMentor has provided mentors to more than 5,000 young people from over 30 NYC schools and after school programs. Annually, iMentor serves 1,800+ young people from some of New York City's most under-served and low income communities.

WELCOME!

Thanks for stopping by iMentor’s Online Donor Drive!

The Online Donor Drive (ODD) is a "friendraising" campaign aimed at raising funds to support iMentor's vital work.  The campaign asks iMentor’s 1,800 mentors to create pages and invite their networks to support their passion for mentoring.  ODD is an outlet for crowdsourcing, fundraising and social interaction that allows pagemakers to tap into their competitive sides for a good cause!

Every dollar makes a difference.  A donation as small as $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events.  $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events.  $500 sponsors a mentee’s participation for an entire year.

We have all had someone in our lives that we consider a role model or a mentor.  Don’t you think today’s youth deserve the same opportunity? iMentor makes this possible.

ABOUT IMENTOR

iMentor’s impact is best explained by the students we serve.  Kandace, a mentee from the Bronx, says; “My mentor gives me support in school and lets me know I can succeed. With her support, nothing can get me down. She lifts me up when I’m down and keeps me motivated.”
