EVENT DATE: Mar 30, 2012

THE STORY:

It's not ok that every  minutes a young adult is diagnosed with cancer.

It's not ok that one young adult an hour loses their battle with cancer.

It's definitely not ok that any of them face cancer alone.

My name is Jen Stewart and before Stupid Cancer I was a normal 20 year old college Junior. That is until a random Friday in May I was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.

Instead of moving into my first college apartment I moved into the hospital to immediately start chemo. I was bald, terrified and had a central line before I could even wrap my mind around what was happening. I spent the next 9 months in and out of chemo and ultimately having bone marrow transplant. Post transplant, I pushed myself to get back to my  "normal" life and tried to figure out how to make it all work.

14 years later, I'm still trying to  figure it out. I have been in search of people my own age who "got" it. People who I could talk to where it wasn't awkward to bring up the issues that had come up since transplant.

That is, until about 6 months ago when I discovered I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation, the largest support community of young adult survivors and caregivers in the US. Online at http://www.stupidcancer.com. They give survivors like me a voice and raise awareness for the unique issues that I face as a young adult; issues like isolation, fertility, sexuality, dating, insurance, career building and more.

The OMG! Cancer Summit is the premiere oncology conference and social networking event for the young adult cancer movement.  A program of the I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation, the OMG! Cancer Summit, now in it's 5th year, has become a pivotal healthcare event that inspires thousands of survivors, cargivers and providers—along with scores of academic, advocacy, research and support organizations—to get organized, build community and unite as one to drive change.

Please help me ensure no young adult feels the way that I did, they DON'T have to face cancer alone. Young adult survivors NEED the chance to attend this event and to participate in a life-affirming weekend of support, education, community and hope.

Stupid cancer. Survivors rule.

Here's what previous attendees have to say:

“The OMG! Summit taught me to keep fighting, be my own advocate and never give up, no matter what the doctor says.”

"I loved meeting new people as well as seeing old friends in person who I’d only known through Facebook.”

“The OMG! Summit and the sheer enormity of our community has left me more inspired than ever."

“I made so many new connections. I can't wait to spread more awareness about young adult cancer.”

“What an amazing, life-changing and inspiring weekend.”
