THE STORY:
Bottom line
Having been born with cancer, I have always technically been a survivor. Although my surgeries and treatments left me with daily reminders of this fact, I failed to acknowledge my qualification as a member of the cancer community. At 25 I became involved with I'm Too Young For This! and finally began to reconcile my historical mentality of just living with the side effects without recognizing them as connected to cancer, with the reality that I am a survivor (and a unique one at that).
The I'm Too Young For This! organization provides a community of people and resources to young adults affected by cancer and enables anyone and everyone to express his/her own story in any capacity he/she chooses. Thanks to my participation in I'm Too Young for This! and the connections I have made through my involvement in the organization, my journey over the past year has been nothing short of transformative - I have gone from rejecting my status as a survivor, whether out of shame or a sense that I simply didn’t belong to the club (that nobody wants to be a part of), to embracing my survivor label with a profound sense of pride!
Please help me ensure this year's OMG! Cancer Summit and the I'm Too Young For This! organization continue to provide the education and environment to allow young adults affected by cancer to meaningfully participate in their own survivorship and to get busy living.
IT'S NOT OKAY!
It's not okay that every 8 minutes, a young adult is diagnosed with cancer and every hour a young adult loses their battle to cancer. Cancer is now the #1 disease killer in young adults.
I2Y's annual conference, the OMG! Cancer Summit for Young Adults, is a pivotal event that brings together hundreds of young adult survivors and caregivers for a one-of-a-kind experience of healing, education and community. No one should go through cancer alone. The OMG! Cancer Summit makes this possible.
Please support my efforts to ensure that I and other survivors like me get the chance to attend this event and make a difference for so many thousands of young adults in need.
Here is what others have had to say about this event in the past:
“The OMG! Summit taught me to keep fighting, be my own advocate and never give up, no matter what the doctor says.”
“Through the OMG! Summit, I made so many new connections. I can't wait to spread more awareness about young adult cancer.”
“What an amazing, life-changing and inspiring weekend.”
"I loved meeting new people at the OMG!Summit. Seeing old friends and being inspired by the enormity of our community has helped me to get busy living
