PARKINSONS UNITY WALK INC
EIN: 13-3842415
BASED: Kingston, NJ, United States
WHAT WE DO:
The Parkinson's Unity Walk (PUW) is the largest grassroots organization, raising funds and awareness to find a cure for Parkinson's disease. An annual Walk is held every year in April in New York City's Central Park. Participants made up of teams and individual walkers take a 2-mile Walk around Central Park. The day is also for community and education; booths featuring the Walk's sponsors are open.
Register and donate now - fundraising occurs all year! PUW is unique in that 100% of donations go directly to research; this has been true since the first Walk. Corporate sponsors and individual research foundations fund the operating expenses of the PUW. Whether you choose to become involved as a walker or a donor, all funds raised on behalf of the PUW will go to research.
Founded in 1994, PUW began through the dedicated efforts of patients, families, support groups, and friends who were affected by Parkinson's disease. 200 participants came out to support the first Walk, and raised $16,000 in research funds. In the 2010 Walk, 10,000 participants attended to raise over $1.5 million for Parkinson’s research.
Donations to the Unity Walk have gone to support research for the following seven major U.S. Parkinson's foundations. Six of the seven participating organizations use funds they receive for specific research studies. The Parkinson's Action Network seeks to maximize federal funding of Parkinson's research through a concerted nationwide advocacy effort.
