THE STORY:
Kyle Sturgeon wrote -
The Productive Collective is an inclusive, informed, and ambitious community of designers, neighbors, and stakeholders committed to urban citizenship and empowering our community. We identify projects that will affect positive social, economic, and educational growth in our Greater Boston communities and develop strategies for their implementation.
We are seeking funding to support our first project - the research, development, and prototyping of an aquaponics urban farming pilot – designed, built and maintained by students, volunteers, and a client community. The pilot will act as a developmental tool for the creation of an educational facility and working farm through a two-year series of design/build workshops at the Boston Architectural College and partnerships with local food organizations.
The initial pilot will be protected by a shed structure and will be sited in a vacant residential lot on Lindsey Street in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester Massachusetts. The scale of the version 1.0 pilot is ideal for DIY construction, and will serve as an exemplary model of food security for private initiatives, while also contributing to the larger Roxbury and Dorchester communities as educational and economic opportunity for local homeowners.
Armed with lessons learned and marketable evidence from this developmental v1.0 pilot, we will seek increased funding and cultivate stronger partnerships in order to construct a larger educational center and working farm, suitable for hosting school tours and DIY workshops.
What an awesome looking project! I can't wait to hear more about it. 1 year ago
Hey hey. Awesome stuff, Laura Masulis. Having done all the Field Academy fundraising recently, I know how freaking exciting it is to have the people around us donate to the things we believe in...so here I am, doing just that. For you. For what you're doing. For the world, in general. Keep it up. 1 year ago
