THE STORY:
Lauren and Seth's Wedding wrote -
A friend once described Alzheimer's to me as "A real FU from the Universe." I've never heard a better description. And because of that, we'd like to do everything we can to battle the universe and raise as much money as we can to help fund research at the Alzheimer's Association.
My mother, Adele, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's 4 years ago at the age of 55. After seeing my Grandpa Marty and Grandma Edie battle this disease, the diagnosis was no less than devastating.
In addition to being the most wonderful mother and a best friend to me, my mom dedicated her life to teaching children. And while she taught kids in both NY and Florida to read for 35 years, she taught my brother Danny and me to be thoughtful, loving, and dedicated individuals. She never put in any less than 110% effort into everything that she did - whether it was her career, or her lifelong dream: to be a mother.
There are few things that exist that are as cruel as this disease. And that's why we must do everything we can to bring it to its knees.
For a few years, Seth and I have been working with the Alzheimer's Association to help raise awareness. The association is committed to and so very passionate about accelerating progress of new treatments, preventions and ultimately, a cure.
We have the potential to cure it, if we gather together and do everything we can possilby do to help raise cash for research.
Here are some not so fun facts about Alzheimer's:
**5.3 million - As many as 5.3 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer's. That means we all know someone who is dealing with this.
**70 seconds - Every 70 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer's.
**100% - Alzheimer's disease is always fatal.
Staggering. Especially that last one.
Let's help to provide the best care and support to those living with Alzheimer's and ultimately try and eliminate Alzheimer's disease. It is vast reaching and heart wrenching.
It would mean so much to us if you could donate to this important cause. Any donation is truly very appreciated.
Thank you,
Lauren & Seth
