History & Mission
With the publication of Silent Spring in 1962, Rachel Carson transformed cultural perceptions of conservation by underscoring the interrelationship of our ecosystem and our own well-being. Rachel's Network, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit named in Carson's honor, has flourished since its inception in 1999, when 18 women joined forces around a shared commitment to conservation. True to our founders’ original intention of empowering themselves and like-minded peers to be more effective funders, Rachel’s Network continues to build productive alliances among women who care deeply about the environment, health, and women's empowerment..

Rachel's Network promotes women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth.
Our Goals
While each of us is motivated by our own unique set of interests and influences, every Rachel’s Network member shares the Network's goals:
- To develop a strategic network that promotes collective action and unifies the voices of women committed to environmental protection
- To increase the representation of women environmental advocates on boards of nonprofits, corporations, and government commissions
- To increase the number and effectiveness of women conservation funders
- To make the environment a top priority on the national agenda
