Ramp It Up!
STRONG WOMEN ORGANIZING OUTRAGEOUS PROJECTS
HERE'S THE STORY:
We want to build more wheelchair ramps for those in need. A recent call came on behalf of a family that had been in a car accident. Their 11-year-old son was paralyzed. And they needed to find a way to get a wheelchair ramp in order to bring him home from the hospital.
When we get a call like this, we want to build that ramp within two weeks. We have built several ramps in the context of our Community Service Workdays, but those are planned months in advance. To answer these calls quickly, we have a growing list of volunteers (SWOOP Responders) that are standing by. Now, we need funding for materials, volunteer coordination (by our licensed general contractor), insurance, and equipment maintenance. The more funding we get, the more ramps we will build.
The cost of a ramp depends on the length needed and the price of materials at that time, but if you want to buy a ramp for someone who desperately needs it, make a donation of $1800 and we will carve your name on the underside of one of the deck boards and send you a picture of it.
