Thank you (again!) for your donation of $25.00 to ONE Spirit to support the Lakota marathon runners. These amazing Lakota athletes are very grateful for your support, and as you know, are donating all funds raised at this site to the Allen Youth Center and other youth programs on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The Youth Center is a dream come true for about 4,000 Lakota children and their families...thank you for helping make this dream a reality- Pilamaya!

Stuff About Me:
Well, enough about me:>) I have been a teacher, a preacher, a creature! Just kidding, the rhyme got to me. I have taught Native American kids in South Dakota and North Carolina. I worked as a house parent at a boarding school for Lakota kids, and no, it was not like they were in the bad old days. After retiring early last year, I have just started working part-time in group homes for folks with developmental disabilities.
I like to give to a variety of organizations, but my heart is really in helping Native Americans. My causes are small and very personal. They help with the environment, heat, food, housing for some of America's poorest and most neglected people. There is often a lot of sentimentality about American Indians by non-Indians, but the truth of life for them, on and off the rez is anything but a sentimental journey. Here are some of the facts of life for Lakota(Sioux) living on the rez in South Dakota:
•Life Expectancy is 48 years for men and 52 years for women.
•Unemployment is estimated to be 87%
•90% live below the Federal poverty level.
•The teenage suicide rate is 3 1/2 times higher than the national average.
•Infant mortality is five times higher than the national average
•Diabetes, heart disease, cancer and malnutrition are epidemic.
And these are facts for many beside the Lakota.
Please take a moment to look at my causes and give if so moved. if you can't give right now, tell any friends who may be moved to learn more and do something.
Thanks, and keep in touch!
Roger
