HERE'S THE STORY:
I am running the NYC Marathon as well as training for it for the first time, and I am doing it in support of an incredible cause. Free Arts NYC helps homeless, abused, and neglected children through the arts, as well as mentoring programs. The arts saved my life when I was a kid, I know how important they can be, and how a single experience can influence the direction that you go in. This November we will run the NYC Marathon in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Free Arts NYC. Through the help of volunteer mentors, Free Arts NYC provides creative arts programs that bring new levels of hope and creativity to families by partnering with group homes, shelters, schools, and community centers that serve low income, homeless, abused, and neglected children.
Children and Families enrolled in Free Arts NYC programs are given the opportunity to find expression and release through a unique combination of arts and mentoring programs. Every donation will help to support many of Free Arts NYC programs including:
Free Arts Days - Saturday arts festivals for children, each sponsored by an individual, family, or corporation.
Weekly Mentor Program - Small groups of children pair with teams of volunteers throughout the academic year.
Parents and Children Together with Art (PACT) - Children and their parents or guardians pair with teams of volunteers for 8-week program cycles.
Multicultural Arts Camp - Week-long summer camps where children learn about art, music and dance from different cultures.
Cultural Enrichment - Every child attends a live performance or cultural event.
