HERE'S THE STORY:
Between the beginning of November and the end of July, I will be running four marathons in an effort to fundraise for the American Cancer Society: New York, Miami, Boston, and San Francisco.
Over the past few months I’ve developed a great appreciation for the resources and services provided by ACS. The organization is a tremendous source of guidance for families who need to learn about the staging and treatment of a sudden illness. More importantly, the organization is physically there for those in need: organizing support groups, providing transportation for individuals living alone, helping to find medication assistance programs, and arranging lodging for patients traveling out of town for treatment.
Since my father, Rich Runco, was diagnosed with renal cancer, ACS has been there for me, and now I would like to give back to them.
The first two marathons - November's New York City Marathon and January's Miami Marathon - are in the books. Next up I'll be headed to Boston on April 16, and, finally, out west to San Francisco on July 29. My hope is that by the time I’m jogging past the Giants' AT&T Park and down the Embarcadero this summer, I will have made at least a $5,000 donation to ACS in my father's name. The running I can do alone, but for the rest I will need the support of friends, family, colleagues, and you. If you have a few dollars that you can spare over the next nine months, then I would humbly welcome a donation. Throughout the training period, I will try to find ways to thank those who have pitched in.
