THE STORY:
Run for Burma is a project of Burma Humanitarian Mission to raise awareness for the oppression by the SPDC against the Karen and other ethnic minorities in eastern Burma. Since 1996, the junta has destroyed more than 3,600 villages. Nearly half a million people are hiding in the jungles without shelter, food or medical care. 1 in 7 Karen children die before the age of 1 -- 12 times the rate in the U.S.
Burma Humanitarian Mission funds medic training and outfits backpack medics with supplies. The medics hike throughout eastern Burma, provide emergency trauma care and community health services. Where the medics are, deaths from malaria are down by 48% and from dysentery down by 51%. $5 donated will cure a pregnant woman of malaria--saving 2 lives!
