BENEFITING: MADRE
THE STORY:
For a long time I have admired the work of MADRE- an international women’s human rights organization that works in partnership with community-based women's organizations worldwide to address issues of health and reproductive rights, economic development, education and other human rights. I find their work to be critical to the improvement of the lives of women everywhere.
After giving birth to my son in 2007, I realize how vital it is to have the necessary access to medical treatment to promote a safe birth. While my son was born via c-section due to complications, I respect and admire midwives and their work. Midwives are truly miraculous women who help bring life into this world.
And that is why I chose to support this project.
About MADRE's Palestinian Safe Birth Project:
MADRE’s newest sister organization in Palestine, Midwives for Peace, is working to train and equip new midwives to help women safely deliver their children in Palestine. Midwives for Peace is a grassroots group of both Palestinian and Israeli midwives reaching out across borders – despite political or religious rivalries – to come together to help women safely through the universal experience of childbirth.

*Please note that MADRE is unaware of my fundraising for this project. What a great surprise when they get a check! And, somewhere in Palestine, a mother and child will have the opportunity at a safe birth.
